Good Places to Meet Excellent Men

By Terry Hernon MacDonald So, youre convinced that you have zero opportunities to meet men. Are you stuck in an office all day with the same stiffs day in and day out? Have you tried singles dances, only to leave feeling worse than when you went in? Did the last loser your aunt set you up with squash your Chihuahua when he screeched up the driveway? Well, dont fret. I have some ideas for you. While advice columnists steer single women into churches to meet honest, loyal, and successful men, I wouldnt dream of it. Church is great for communing with God, but it never struck me as the best place to meet a man. People, including me, are on our best behavior at church. If youd rather meet a man where hes more likely to be himself, here are my top three recommendations: 1. A bar, specifically during Monday Night Football. Football season is a great time to meet men who flock to taverns to watch the NFL. When I was single, I loved going to Monday Night Football (even though I didnt really understand the game) because the bar was filled with mostly single men, there was a free buffet, and the atmosphere was merry. Advice columnists usually tell women to stay out of bars if they want to meet suitable men, but I disagree. Its important to see how a man drinks, and how he behaves under the influence of alcohol. Does he get wasted and drive home? Or, does he have a couple of beers and switch to water before he leaves? Does he smack the bartender in the head when his team loses, or does he remain amiable? There are things you can learn in a bar about a man that you never will in church. Bring a friend with you and make having fun, not hooking up, your first priority. You may have to show up three weeks in a row before anybody shows interest in you (or, then again, maybe not). Keep in mind that different bars attract different types of people. If you dont like the crowd in one bar, try another place next time. 2. A class. I know, I know. Youve heard this one before, but have you ever tried it? Let me tell you a story: My friend Brians longtime girlfriend dropped him for another guy. After grieving for a while, he dusted himself off and signed up for a cooking class. See, Brian loves to cook, but he put off pursuing formal training while he was with Whats-Her-Name. Once she was out of the picture, though, he decided to register for a course, figuring hed meet many likeminded women there. Sure enough, he did. I advise you to write down a list of hobbies youd like to explore and figure out which of them would also appeal to men. Then sign up for a class or join a club. See what happens. 3. Throw a party. While Brian did meet lots of women at the cooking class, he didnt fall in love with any of them. So he threw a party where he could show off his new skills. He wasnt picky about who he invited and told everybody to bring a friend or two. The result? A woman hed never met showed up. They fell in love and have been married now for two years. But even if Brian hadnt met his future wife that night, hosting that party netted him plenty of invitations to others, providing opportunities to meet many more people. A caveat: When you plan your party, dont exclude married friends from the guest list. You dont want your big night to feel like a singles mixer. Instead, invite couples and encourage them to bring a friend. Remember, the trick to meeting new men is to break up your routine. Step one: Put down the remote. I assure you that the world is full of great single men like Brian who want to meet someone special, and for one of those men, that person is you. Seek and create new social situations. Act naturally. Smile. Whatever you do, dont keep twisting your neck like youre casing the place for a live one. Maintain eye contact with whomever youre talking to, whether its a man or a woman. Having fun is key. When youre having fun, youll attract men like a magnet. About The Author (c)Terry Hernon MacDonald. A Wedding Shower Invitation Should Be Attractive And Stylish!

By Mike Yeager Wedding shower invitations should lay out all of the necessary information, yet still be attractive. One way to do this is to have a picture engraved on the invitation. Ask your engraver to add a small design on the inside of your invitation or wherever you have information about the reception. If, for example, an ice cream social is your theme see if there is an ice cream cone or Sundae dish they can emboss onto the paper without taking away from the main body of the invitation. Remember that subtlety is stylish; you dont want to come across as overpowering with your theme. It may be difficult sometimes to know who to invite to the wedding shower. As a general rule, the wedding shower hostess or hostesses should invite all family members of both the bride and the groom. She should also invite close friends of the bride and the bride’s family. She may also want to invite some of the bride-to-be’s co-workers. She should be sure to consult with the bride when compiling the guest list. Try to organize the people invited so some will set up the wedding shower game, someone else will set up the wedding shower favor, and so on. What do I put on a wedding Shower Invitation? The wedding shower invitation should include the name of the bride to be, the date and time of the shower, and the address and phone number of the hostess/hostesses. If you are concerned about the attendance at your wedding shower, consider including on the invitation a deadline date for the RSVP. (This is usually about two weeks prior to the shower date.) It may be difficult to make up a wedding shower invitation without prior experience. Because of this, it may be a good idea to have the same person who did your bridal shower invitation to also do your wedding shower invitation. Food – An Alternative to Emotions

By Michael Hadfield Emotion: a moving of the feelings: agitation of the mind: one of the three groups of the phenomena of the mind feeling, distinguished from cognition and will. Food: what one feeds on: that which, being digested, nourishes the body: whatever sustains or promotes growth. No obvious connection there, is there? My dictionary doesn’t make a distinction between emotions and feelings, but some psychologists do, so I’ll be more clear about the sort of thing I’m writing about here: hurt, upset, sadness, anger, grief, and maybe even boredom if it is accompanied by an irritation about the boredom. There are positive emotions, but they generally don’t cause problems unless maybe you’re on a permanent high and can’t get down. Let’s think about lions for a moment. They lounge around in the sun most of the time. When they get hungry, they go and kill something and eat it until they are full. Then they lounge around until they are hungry again and amuse themselves by fighting among themselves or driving off other lions. They don’t go out and kill something for something to do because they are bored. They don’t go out and kill something because they are angry, or sad. They eat when they need to eat, and they don’t even need to eat every day. Can you imagine a lioness going out and killing and eating every time her partner growled at her? Can you imagine a lioness going out and killing and eating every time her cubs became a little boisterous? Ok. Lions probably don’t experience emotions and they are much more focused in the now, but they probably don’t get overweight and suffer heart and circulation problems either. So why do people do those things? Why do people head for the fridge when someone has done something they didn’t like? Why do people head for the fridge when they feel lonely? Why do people head for the fridge when the commercial break starts or the clock says ‘supper time’? Why do they do those things regardless of whether or not they feel hungry. And it’s difficult to imagine how someone could feel hungry after eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner isn’t it? They do it because they don’t want to feel. They do it because they are afraid of what will happen if they don’t. They do it because it distracts them from being fully present with themselves. And they do that because they don’t really like themselves, and they certainly don’t love themselves. No one who loves themselves would mistreat their body in any way, because love doesn’t mistreat. Love and health are synonymous. As children we naturally express how we feel from moment to moment. I feel sick, I don’t like that, I’ve got a headache, my tummy hurts, I’m bored and when we feel angry we shout and stamp our feet and walk away. But as we grow we are taught that good children don’t do those things. It’s not polite to tell aunty you don’t like her cakes when she’s spent all afternoon making them ‘specially for you. If you shout at me I’ll give you a smack. Idle hands are the devil’s playthings. So we are taught to lie about how we feel, to not express when we are deeply unhappy, that anger is unacceptable, and that sitting contentedly, happy in our own mental world of fascination and creativity, is unacceptable. And then after getting screwed up like that (because our parents feel pressure to socialise us and make us acceptable to others – because they understand loneliness and don’t want you to develop any traits that would cause you to be rejected by others) they feed you when you are no longer obviously expressing your unhappiness. They know something is wrong by your change of mood, and they don’t like seeing you unhappy so they feed you. Chocolate, sweets, ice cream, cream cakes are all foods that are used to entice you into a better mood state. Notice that apples, pears, oranges, nuts, tomatoes and such are never used to entice you to change your mood state. When you are ill, you get treats, all the same foods filled with fat and sugar. Now when we are little our parents and close relatives are Gods. They are all-wise. They can read our minds. They can work magic. And so what they teach us is stored deep within our minds and we call on it in times of trouble. Times of trouble are usually when we feel low, or bored. We have been taught that eating fat and sweet takes the pain away. At least that’s what we act as if we’ve been taught. But there was a processing error in our young minds. What we really got, and really wanted was love and attention and appreciation. The treat was just the medium that transported and expressed that feeling of being loved and cared for. But we mistook it. The reason we go to the fridge is because it reminds us of being loved and cared for. It reminds us of loving arms around us; being tucked up in bed; having someone come up with ideas of how to have some fun together with them; having someone stroke your hair; and those are wonderful things to have experienced as a child. To know and to feel loved at any time during life is a wonderful experience. You can change the pattern if you want to. You just need to experience the emotion that has been buried. You need to let it out and let it go. Writing is a wonderful medium for releasing emotion. Make a pact with yourself that every time you head for the fridge and you have no feelings of hunger that you will sit down for just five minutes and write. What you write is what you feel. Start off with ‘I feel right now’ and insert whatever you are feeling bored, lonely, unloved, fed-up and so on. And then write ‘this feels like the time when’ and allow your mind to drift back into the past and write out whatever comes up. Write down who did what when and why. Write down who you’re angry at. Write down what you’d like to say now or what you should have said then and keep going until you get tears. Until you touch the emotional hot spot that causes tears to flow you will not bring about any significant change. Once the tears flow you can stop writing and rip up the paper. Language and grammar are unimportant; no one will read your words. Make eating a conscious activity. It’s ok to feel however you feel. No one has the right to deny you the full and natural expression of your emotions. But you do need to take responsibility for you. Expressing your emotions isn’t hitting, hurting, or seeking revenge on another. It is giving yourself permission to feel however you are feeling and giving yourself permission to express how you are feeling to anyone that you feel it’s important to express those feelings to. It is not an excuse to blame someone else for how you feel. Your feelings are yours, and why you are feeling them is your stuff. Others only fire off emotions so that you can identify a problem and heal it. They are not to blame for how you feel and neither are you. Michael J. Do You Want A Weight Loss Program That Actually Works!

By John McDermott, Jr Are you wanting to lose weight? Here are some known facts about Obesity: Obesity is more than an aesthetic problem or an issue of a few extra pounds here or there. Obesity is an epidemic in our western world that shows no signs of fading away; in fact, the situation continues to worsen. Soon, obesity will pass tobacco as the leading cause of preventable deaths. “Overweight and obesity may soon cause as much preventable disease and death as cigarette smoking,” said David Satcher, the U.S. Surgeon General. “People tend to think of overweight and obesity as strictly a personal matter, but there is much that communities can and should do to address these problems.” Obesity is defined as having a Body Mass Index (BMI) level of greater than 30. Incredibly, an estimated 300,000 U.S. deaths each year are associated in some way with obesity and overweight. Cost-wise, the price is steep as well: the total direct and indirect costs attributed to overweight and obesity were $117 billion in the year 2000. Our Healthpointe Weight Loss Program can help and is simply living up to its name, i.e. WEIGHT LOSS! In fact, when I was introduced to the program by two leading Australian Personal Fitness Trainers, I wanted to see the results before I started to promote it. I was sceptical about getting involved with this program because there are so many so called, ‘Weight Loss Programs’ out there in the our market place so I introduced it [for free] to a friend who has always wanted to lose weight. She is achieving great results! I am a Personal Fitness Trainer with over 15 years experience in fitness training and I have not seen such great results from people using the Healthpointe Weight Loss Program. As an introductory offer, I actually do not make any money out of this program because, although this program has a proven track record with other Personal Fitness Trainers, I want to see results with new clients that I myself come across. Prepare the Garden for Its Winter Slumber

By Bonnie Moss For those who live through winter, the gardening season is over. But not really. There IS work to do! If you have not tidied up the garden, there is still time before the ground freezes and is covered with snow. Pull out the rest of the annuals. It is too late to trim any perennials, so leave these alone. Mound mulch around your favorite rose bush and other perennials. Some recommend piling up leaves over perennials. Others dont. The argument is that leaves tend to rot. However, if youve done this before and it works for you, go for it. Bring in your precious garden ornaments. Wash and dry these before storage. Hanging baskets should be taken down if you intend to re-use them next year. Most urns and big planters are safe to leave outdoors, except those made of terracotta and other breakable materials. Planters made of heavy duty polyresin, plastic, cast iron or metal can withstand freezing temperatures. These can be stashed away in a safe corner to keep them away from snow removal. However, if you want color, decorate these planters for the Christmas season. It adds a festive mood to your garden. Protect the spring bulbs by covering these with screen material or a wire mesh and pile up mulch generously. Those pesky four-legged creatures do not hibernate over winter. Dont forget to uncover these come Spring. Take a good look at your garden, envision what worked, what didnt last summer. A bare garden plot is a canvas waiting for someone to express creativity. This is a chance for you to re-assess the arrangement of plants. If you like a change of garden design for next season, this is the best time to study the garden layout to get a good idea what changes you will undertake next season. If you have rocks or stones in your garden, spend some time to rearrange, to strengthen or fill in the gaps. If you have ideas of adding more rocks, its a good time to work on the garden while it s bare. Dont forget the garden tools. These will last longer if you clean these up and store them properly. Bring in the nozzles for your hose. These tend to crack if left on the hose over winter. Tidbit: Store the rake, pitchfork , fan rake and shovels facing downwards, or the wall if you are lucky enough to have a place to hang these. As you walk around your bare garden, feel the aura of stillness it projects as it prepares for its winter slumber. The garden at this time can still be a place for a quiet moment as you fill your lungs with the fresh and crisp chill of November. Getting A Loan With Bad Credit Doesn’t Have To Be Hard

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Connie_Barker]Connie Barker Mortgages, credit cards, personal loans, refinance loans and auto loans, if you have bad credit you can still get any one or all of these types of financial assistance. Many lenders these days are realizing that the days of a perfect credit score are over for the average person. These days, life happens and because of this more and more banks and lenders are taking a more compassionate approach to lending money or approving credit cards. This is not to say that lenders are looking the other way, they are taking steps to protect themselves too, but they are finding ways to make high risk loans happen for those who have less then perfect credit. There are a few steps you should follow, however, when thinking about obtaining a high risk loan. First make sure you get your loan from a reputable company or bank. There are plenty of lenders out there who are willing to help you into debt. Payday loans and cash advance loans are considered high risk loans too but these are the types of loans you really want to think about before you dive into them. Second, run your finances. Just because a lender will loan you money doesnt mean that you can afford it. In fact high risk loans have a hidden danger in them in that the lenders dont run your finances like regular banks do. The way it normally works is the bank will take into consideration all of your bills and then calculate out whether you have the funds to pay them back. Secondary lenders who do high risk loans dont take this step; they are just trying to get you the loan. It is up to you to determine whether or not you can afford the loan. Finally, consider taking care of your credit first before jumping into a high risk loan. Although it is easier to get a high risk loan these days that doesnt necessarily make it a good move. Take the steps to clear up your credit and then you wont have to worry. Remember if you take care of your credit, your credit will take care of you. Growing Herb Plants in Containers

By Ted Roberson I love herb plants. I have grown thyme, basil, marjoram, sage, mint, parsley, cilantro, chives, rosemary, oregano and more. My rosemary plant has now made it through two winters and it looks like a small shrub. I love herb plants because I get to eat them, they are easy to grow, and they can be grown quite successfully in containers. My herb plants have all been grown in plain, cheap plastic containers from the local discount store. Some, like mint and the rosemary, have been grown in their own individual pots, while others, like thyme and sage, are planted together in window boxes that sit on the walls of my patio. These container-grown herb plants are incredibly convenient because they are all about two steps out my back door. If I decide I need an herb in the middle of cooking dinner, I can rush out and grab a little without having to worry if my kitchen will catch on fire (and without stopping to find my shoes). Theres really only one rule to growing herb plants: grow what you like. If you never cook Italian food, dont grow basil. If you dont like mint, dont grow it. You should never grow something you wont use just because it looks nice, smells nice, or seems like something that ought to be in your garden. If you cook a lot, you probably already know what kinds of herb plants youd like in your container garden. If you dont cook, growing some herb plants just might give you a kick-start. Try easy-to-grow and use herbs like parsley, chives, cilantro or thyme. Or grow things that correspond to the cuisines you like to eat: cilantro for Mexican food, basil and rosemary for Italian, mint and chamomile if you love tea, lemongrass and Thai basil for Thai food, etc. Then get a recipe book from the library and make sure those herbs dont go to waste! There are two methods for growing herb plants: you can buy already established plants or you can start your herb plants from seed. We usually do a mix based on which herb plants are available for sale at our local farmers market or garden supply store. The easiest herb plants to grow from seed are parsley, cilantro, chives, mint and other similar plants with small grassy stems. The woodier herb plants like rosemary, thyme and oregano are better grown from established plants. If you are planting established herb plants, you plant them in the same way you would plant any other plant; just dig a hole, put the plant in and water it well. If youre starting your herb plants from seeds, scatter them over the soil, cover very lightly with a little bit of soil and water well. The plants will begin to sprout in about a week. The great thing about starting your herbs from seeds is that you can continue to plant seeds every couple of weeks all season long so you always have fresh herbs available. Parsley and cilantro in particular benefit from this continual sewing, because so much must be harvested to be of any use. Whichever way you choose to start your herb plants, make sure you keep them well watered through the season and they will produce well for you. Established herbs can be harvested by simply trimming off what you need. The potency of dried herbs is about three times that of fresh, so if you are using fresh herbs in a recipe that called for dried herbs, triple the amount called for. Fresh herbs are not just for cooking. You can also use them in craft projects, flower arrangements, and salads. Dry some of your harvest so youll have great fresh herbs all winter long. Youll never go back to those sad little tins from the grocery store. Will Religion Be The Next Driving Force Of Technology?

By J. Mitchell For many years now (and when I say many, I mean ever since the dawn of religion) there has been an ongoing debate amongst religions and especially Christianity as to what role technology should play for Christians. There has been much resistance and in some cases, there is downright contempt for technology. But is that really fair?… Let’s face it, we live in a highly plugged-in world. Technology now is now a part of our every day life in practically every waking hour and non-waking hour for that matter. Our children have grown up in this world and now expect technology in everything they do from video games to cellphones. It should be no surprise that since this is the case, it’s inevitable that technology is going to be a very important component for many Christians decades into that future. Our youth of today have grown to expect technology and will most likely demand it even in their Religious and Christian worships. Actually, let’s not pretend that technology is a vision of the future for Christians, technology is here right now for Christians. From Christian educational tools and games, to Sermons within our Churches, to missionaries for Christ, technology is with us and becoming a powerful tool. Special software is being used in a Church from everything including managing the Finances of our Churches to helping to prepare the ministries. Many churches are becoming wireless communication centers that would rival some of the most wired College Campuses. Software can be used to request prayers and assist and become involved in the actual ministries themselves. These new technologies allow Churches to increase the effectiveness by providing an entertaining sermon while also allowing them the ability to post these sermons online. Even on Missionaries, the use of technology is becoming an important asset. The task of keeping track of all the goods being donated and by whom had become an unmanageable task for those involved in the missionaries. The missionary on the ground had no way of managing the ability to not only provide the necessary materials for those in need, but they also had no way of gathering and storing the materials needed to teach the people. The use of databases and other laptop software has helped alleviate this gigantic task. Now databases can store and inventory the donations providing those on the ground with instant access to this information. Even with this great increase in technology being used by Churches, is this still an untapped market that has great potential? I can see that for a long time into the future, Christians are going to be impressed with new tools for both education and entertainment. So, is this untapped market going to be the next “silicon valley”? With such great potential and so many opportunities, I can’t imagine that many profit and non-profit companies won’t be testing the water to see where this could go. Again, we get back to the nagging question. Are Christians going to embrace this potentially new flood of technology and software, or are they going to shun it? Perhaps the more important question is, does God approve of its use? That not so simple question must be answered first. That question will be the deciding factor as Christians across the globe decide on a generally accepted answer to it with the help of God. If we do decide that God approves of the technology becoming an integrated part of the Christian way of life, watch out Silicon Valley, because here comes the army of God!!! John Mitchell is a contributing editor to Christianzine.com from which this article on Religion and Technology can be read. Don’t Shy Away From the Limelight

By Linda Hansen Visibility is the first step in building a solid reputation. Consumers that see your name displayed somewhere are more likely to use your product than if theyd never heard of you. So step out, let your voice be heard, and display yourself for all to see. Becoming visible is something every business strives to do. Visibility is the principal idea behind advertising and promotion. By publicizing your name, more interest in your business will be generated, which can lead to more contacts that will equal more sales. The important thing is that when people see your name displayed they have a positive association with it. For small businesses this will probably be from third party endorsement, the most effective type of advertising. Third party endorsement comes from consumers that have had a positive experience with your product. The old saying the customer is always right, comes from this. Even if the customer isnt right, you must always try to make them happy because they can affect potential business. Positive reviews of your product or service works as free advertising and will be more effective because of its credibility. Consumers are more likely to believe another person as opposed to the best advertising campaign that money can buy. Theyre also more likely to tell more people if theyve encountered a negative experience. Positive third party endorsement will likely come from a good experience with a product or service and people respond to that. It can greatly impact your brand image and make you more attractive to potential buyers. How do you become visible? Weve already talked about the importance of third-party credibility. When prospects hear your name, they should think of you and know youre good at what you do. If they dont, make sure you know why and try to change their opinion by associating yourself with something positive. A great way to do this is by getting involved with local charities or foundations. There is nothing more positive than community service. This will speak to those prospects and let them know you donate time or money to help those less fortunate. Associating with these organizations also makes you even more visible to your prospects. It can serve as another place for them to be exposed to your name and your message. As visibility grows and people are starting to sample your product, your business becomes more memorable. People will remember your name and develop product loyalty. Not only will they be loyal to the product they used, but they will be more likely to try other products with your brand because of your positive brand image. The final aspect of visibility is developing an identity. When people see you logo or name displayed somewhere, they should know what youre about. A good example of this would be McDonalds use of the golden arches. People dont need to see the McDonalds name to know what the golden arches mean. They also know exactly what McDonalds is about, fast food. This comes from being visible in a market and building a relationship with customers to know how to recognize the brand. McDonalds would not be the worldwide success that it is without being visible and allowing people to see what its about. This just shows its beneficial to display your name and your message whenever you can. Dont miss an opportunity to be seen and established with potential prospects, be visible. Packing for College – The 4-Box Challenge

By Tracey Drake The time has finally arrived for you to leave home and go away to college. What an exciting time! If you are like most, your bedroom is currently a disaster area with clothes, books, compact disks and miscellaneous items strewn everywhere. You want to take it all and you cannot decide what to take and what to leave behind, and at the moment, this seems like a bigger decision that deciding which college to attend. How many times have you packed, unpacked and then repacked that favorite sweatshirt? Take a break, relax and let me share with you some insights into how to pack for college. 1) Your dorm room is small if you overstuff it with clothing and personal items, there will be nowhere to sleep or study (which is the reason you are going to college, after all!). Additionally, you might not make the best roommate if you are hogging all the square footage in your shared room. 2) You are not leaving forever> your parents are not going to rent out your bedroom at home as soon as you leave for college and you are coming back. Think short-term what do you need for the first few months of college? What is the weather like in your college town in the fall? Pack accordingly and dont take everything you own. 3) Things are going to change, and fast Once you get to school, especially if you are going across country or perhaps to another country; you will find that college life is more or less casual than you anticipated. It is a good idea to pack the staples; jeans, sweatshirts, a few clubbing outfits, pajamas and comfy study sweats and leave the rest at home. Once you have been at school a few weeks, if you find you are missing essentials from home, you can have mom or dad ship them to you or pick them up on your next visit back home. If you want to succeed in taking what you need and leave the rest behind, try the 4-box challenge. Get four good sized packing boxes (but not appliance size) and line them up along one side of your bed, leaving plenty of free space in front of them. Get a marker and label them clothing 1, clothing 2, school stuff, and personal. Now look around your room. One item at a time, place them in front of the box; sweaters and jeans in the clothing boxes, CDs, toiletries and picture frames in the personal box, textbooks, duo tangs and writing supplies in school stuff. In this challenge, 2 boxes are allotted for clothing. One box should be essentials including your day-to-day clothing and the second box should be for special occasion outfits, your big fluffy bathrobe, shoes and a few purses. If everything will not fit into the boxes, you must edit what you have selected. This is the toughest part of the challenge but with a little perseverance, you can do it. If you are having a tough time, ask yourself the following questions: 1) How many times have I worn this in the past month? 2) Will I use this item at least once a week for the next few months? 3) Can I live without it? Keep plugging away until the boxes are full but not overflowing. Once you are done, close the boxes and tape them shut. You are ready to leave for college with your most favorite possessions.
